The following expressions may be used to give a friendly addition to your greeting. These expressions are used to address others according to their relationship to you, their gender or their age.

When these expressions are combined with the basic greetings, there are a number of sentences which result. For example: ‘Kia ora. e hoa!’ meaning ‘Hello, friend!’ or ‘Tēnā koe, e koro’ meaning ‘Hello, grandpa’
